Japanese Release Date For Crisis Core!

Yep, everybody's favourite prequel is on its way to an actual release. First up to bat: Japan later this year.

Crisis Core, at last check, was sitting pretty at 75% completion, with Nomura enthusiastic about the game releasing before the end of the year. Turns out he's delivering for once, because Square has officially announced that the PSP prequel will be releasing on August 2, 2007 in Japan.

(Note the symbolism here? 2007, Final Fantasy 7; ten years after the original's release; seven years before the original game.)

Anyway there is still no word on an official US release, but we can expect it before the end of the year. Also look foward to a list of English voice actors around the time of the Japanese release.

Crisis Core Gamaga Information

The upcoming May issue of Gamaga, to be released on Friday, includes some information on Crisis Core, most of which seems to be along the lines of the other recent magazine articles, and as such, there isn't much new information.

- Development is said to be 75% complete.

- There is also some information on the trailer that will be shown at Square-Enix Party; it will include a lot of completely new content, and some of the other scenes will have been changed completely. It will also be the longest Crisis Core trailer so far.

- Genesis is a character who specializes in magic, and fights with a sword that has a red blade. He uses a combination of magic and sword skill to fight.

- The Turk's designs are the same as their designs in Before Crisis. Reno doesn't have his ponytail, and Rude doesn't have any facial hair, and has fewer piercings.

- At the time of Crisis Core, SOLDIER was organized differently, and was seperate from the army that Heidegger controls.

- There will be a wide variety of materia. Materia can be both found and synthesized (as in Before Crisis), though the synthization method wasn't explained.

- After you've obtained enough experience and exceeded the specific value for leveling up, you will level up via the reel system.

New Crisis Core Details Revealed!

New details have surfaced about Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, the upcoming addition to the Final Fantasy VII family. The game will feature a unique battle system known as "Digital Mind Wave," which will draw on Zack's memories. Reels with character portraits in the left-hand corner will allow players to use abilities gained during battles alongside Cloud and other Shinra employees. In what sounds like a slot machine system, "Power Surge!!" will boost attacks when the images and numbers on the reels are identical. Zack will then be able to use the attacks of the character whose image appears on the reels. Rude and Reno, as well as other members of the Turks, are also due to appear during the game.

Crisis Core was announced for the PlayStation Portable in 2004 as a Final Fantasy VII prequel centered around Zack. Images from the game of Cloud, Aeris, and Sephiroth have since surfaced. No release has yet been announced for Crisis Core.
